SpectrometerWhat is a Spectrometer? It is any device used to measure the fluctuation of a physical property across a specific range, i.e. a spectrum. In the case of a mass spectrometer, this may be a mass-to-charge ratio spectrum, the fluctuation of nuclear resonance frequencies in an NMR spectrometer, or the change in light absorption and emission with wavelength in an optical spectrometer. What is a spectrometer used for? It measures the wavelengths of light over a huge electromagnetic spectrum. Another use of this material is to conduct spectroscopic analysis of the sample materials.
